Lourdes University director of athletics
Andre Smith has announced that the school will begin sponsoring the sports of men's and women's lacrosse as well as competitive cheer and dance beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.
The addition of the two sports will bring the university's varsity sports total to 13, as Lourdes previously announced the addition of men's and women's cross country earlier this fall.
“Adding lacrosse and competitive cheer continues to enhance our athletic department here at Lourdes,” Smith stated. “We look forward to having the additional student-athletes on campus beginning this fall.”
Currently there are six men's schools and four women's schools in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference that sponsor lacrosse while competitive cheer and dance is a NAIA emerging sport.
Ori Rife has been named the cheer and dance coach while Lourdes will fill the lacrosse coaching positions as soon as possible.
